End-of-Summer Activities: Arts, Music, and Entertainment

Summer is coming to a close, but there are still plenty of activities to enjoy throughout the Quad Cities in the next month. Here are some music, arts, and entertainment-based activities that you and/or your family might enjoy.

 

Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival

In the Roaring 20s, Davenport, Iowa produced a legendary jazz cornetist, pianist, and composer whose worldwide fame continues to grow. Since 1972, the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival has honored this unassuming young genius through a four-day event with music and fun.

Where: Quad-Cities Waterfront Convention Center and the Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf

Children of Eden

Based on the story of Genesis, the age-old conflict of parents and children takes the stage in this epic, heartfelt Stephen Schwartz musical. Children of Eden is a joyous, foot-stomping and inspirational musical about parents, children and faith.

Where: Prospect Park Auditorium— 1584 34th Avenue, Moline, IL

When: August 5, 6, 7 and 11, 12, 13, 14. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2pm

Price: Adult: $16, Child: $11

 

Screening of The Wizard of Oz

The Adler Theatre will be hosting a rare 35mm film presentation of this classic motion picture, originally released in 1939. The print for this screening comes courtesy of Warner Bros. and is one of a very few manufactured in 1998 when Technicolor briefly resumed a photo-chemical printing method that replicated the “three-strip” dye-transfer color process used when the picture was made in 1939.

When: August 13 at 2pm and 7pm

Price: There are no advance sales.  Tickets will be available at the door for $3 per person or $10 for a family pack (maximum of 5 people).

 

River Roots Live Music Festival

The Quad Cities’ premier annual outdoor live music festival that features top national, regional, and local acts with a great selection of barbecue from award-winning national and local rib vendors. This event pays tribute to the Mississippi River and is a collaborative effort that benefits the downtown Davenport beautification program, River Music Experience educational programming, and Living Lands & Waters clean up efforts.

When: August 26-27

Price: In Advance: Weekend Pass: $25, Gate Price: $25 for a day pass or $30 for a weekend pass, Kids: ages 10 and under are free
